THE SOVEREIGNTY OF THE NET OR A CONCEPT - BREACH TO VIOLATIONS OF INTERNET USERS' RIGHTS

The sovereignty of the net is no longer an empty concept since governments already use it to assert certain measures in order to have a hand on the internet all along its borders.
In the same way that governments exercise power over their physical territorial boundaries, they also invoke exclusive power within the boundaries of the network they have defined and thus claim their sovereignty.
Behind these maneuvers some dilatory they are, the intention is to govern the web and control its integrity.

Sovereignty sometimes circumstantial

Governments being in situations of illegitimacy, and political crises resort to this concept to stop all dissenting voices, retrieve information across the internet on its borders and use them against their authors or someone else hostile to the regime in place.
To be a little concrete, the Democratic Republic of Congo when the second and last term of former president Joseph Kabila expired, the Internet had become a dangerous space for activists and people close to the opposition.
The government could use information from individuals against them without them noticing it.
During periods of crises, several governments around the world are putting batteries in motion to lay down laws, protocols or standards and other forms of measures to ensure that no information transiting the net within its borders escape.

When the internet becomes ungovernable

The governability of the Internet in an entity must necessarily meet certain internationally recognized standards in the field; but when a state falls behind this notion of sovereignty, key Internet governance stakeholders can no longer have a voice to make when making decisions about the future of the internet and even if other stakeholders could raise their voices, could these be heard?
This is how certain principles going in the optics of an open internet where there is democracy are not respected.
'' However, the growth of political and social discourse has led to the use of the internet as a tool that silence dissenting voices, promoting violence and perpetuating the prevalence of inequality - talking about accessibility and use
An evolving approach to the internet today is such that many citizens are under-informed or unaware of how their fundamental rights such as expressing themselves, meeting and associating fit into the digital world. ''
Indeed, any State advocating the digital freedom of Internet users, in the name of Democracy and Inclusiveness on the Internet should abandon this initiative, which in most cases penalizes Internet users and deprives them of their rights more fundamental because it makes sense in a state wanting to give meaning to what sovereignty looks like in a democracy.
